Nana Addo Warns Appointees Over New Ya-Naa

President Akufo-Addo says any government official who will impede the peace process in Yendi would be penalized.

He said he has no personal interest in the enskinment process in the area, indicating that the greatest gift for the good people of Ghana would be the enskinment of new Yaa-Naa in Dagbon to bring an end to the long-standing conflict in the kingdom of Dagbon.

“I pledge to support and give the full backing of my government to any formula, means, strategy and approach to be adopted to find a lasting solution to the conflict situation in Dagbon,” he underscored.

After decades of crisis in Dagbon, the government, in collaboration with the various traditional chiefs – both Abudus and Andanis – has come to a consensus to find lasting solution to the Dagbon crisis.

There has been crisis in Dagbon – which was once a beacon of peace and stability in the Northern Region – over the last decade.

He called on the traditional rulers and the committee of eminent chiefs to spearhead the process to enskin an overlord for Dagbon before this year’s Damba Festival in December, adding that it would be the greatest first-year achievement of his government.

The Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya-Naa, Yakubu Abdulai Andani said that some party members and officials of government had started to violate the customs and traditions of their lands.

He urged the president to ensure that his appointees buy into his (president’s) policy to promote peace and stability in Dagbon.

According to him, the Kugu Naa and his assistants, custodians of Dagbon customs, came out to reconstruct two rooms – Katini Duu and Gomli Duu – at the Gbewa palace which under custom is not supposed to be demolished completely.

Kampakuya-Naa hinted that such scorn for Dagbon and its customs could not promote peace, and that action must be taken to bring the perpetrators to book.
