LEAP Beneficiaries To Increase In East Mamprusi

Madam Otiko Afisa-Djaba, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection has announced that additional 500 households in the East Mamprusi District of the Northern Region are to benefit from the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme to eradicate poverty in the area.

The Minister announced this at a durbar at Nalerigu in honour of President Nana Akufo-Addo by the Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area.

She said currently 4,151 households representing 21,000 individuals in the district were benefiting from LEAP.

President Nana Akufo-Addo visited Nalerigu on Friday at the start of his three-day visit to the Northern Region to interact with the chiefs and people.

Madam Afisa-Djaba said the government had cleared the debt owed to caterers under the School Feeding Programme (SFP) adding 29 schools in the district were also benefiting from the SFP assuring that more caterers would be engaged under the SFP in the district.

She said her Ministry was working around the clock to create a Kayaye Module to train young people and give them start-ups to set up their own businesses to prevent them from migrating to urban centres in search of jobs.

She said the move was in line with her Ministry’s determination to better the lot of people as well as the government’s vision to move away from aid to trade.

She called for support for the President to ensure success of the government.
