NMC should help train presenters

Mr. Kingsley Obeng-Boateng, a government appointee of Nkoranza South District Assembly, has called on the National Media Commission to organise professional courses for presenters of FM radio stations to help update their knowledge and skills in presenting programmes. Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency he said many listeners were dissatisfied with the mediocre performance of some presenters during discussions on political issues as they allow some youth "to use freedom of speech to vilify, attack and insult political and traditional personalities." "People attain leadership positions through the blessings of God and it is disheartening to hear the youth . showing gross disrespect to our leaders who are chosen by God," Mr. Obeng-Boateng, an elder of the Church of Pentecost stated. He stressed that the orientation courses would help the presenters become cautious and circumspect when discussing political issues and matters of the State. The Assembly Member advised the youth to be disciplined, respectful and law abiding and not to allow partisan politics to disunite them and destroy their future. Mr. Obeng-Boateng urged religious bodies to use the pulpit to educate the youth to respect authority so they would grow to become responsible leaders. He called on political leaders to refrain from using politics to fan tribalism, "since that can divide the people and affect the development of families and communities," he said.
