Government To Employ 100,000 Graduates In 2018 – Bawumia

Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said a total of 100,000 unemployed graduates will have the opportunity to be employed by government in 2018.

Consequently, each Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly (MMDA) is expected to get an average of 450 employed graduates to increase workforce and boost productivity.

Dr Bawumia said this during the celebration of the 29th Edition of the Kakube Festival of the chiefs and people of the Nandom Traditional Area.

He said the goal of government economic policies is to reduce unemployment and provide jobs, and in this regard, government was pursuing a number of policies including the “Nation Builders Core” under which the graduates would be employed.

The Vice President also affirmed that the one-million-dollar-one-constituency policy would see full implementation in 2018 and urged districts to identify areas to invest such funds to bring the needed development.

Dr Bawumia said government is committed to delivering on its promises and appealed to chiefs and landowners to release land for the implementation of the projects especially the One-District-One-Factory policy.

He commended the chiefs and people of Nandom for initiating and sustaining the celebration of the Kakube Festival for 29 years and using it to hold the people together and ensure the peace and security of the area.

He said government would continue to support traditional councils to play their role in the socio-economic development of the area, adding that it is the prayer of government that they would be able to resolve conflicts amicably when they emerge.

Mr Ambrose Dery, Minister for the Interior and Member of Parliament for the Nandom Constituency, said government is working towards increasing the number of police personnel on the Wa-Lawra-Nandom-Hamile road to address recent security concerns on the road.

He said government was also putting in measures to acquire vehicles and other equipment to resource the police to deliver on their security mandate.

On recent the disagreement among some group of Muslims in Nandom over the issue of leadership, the Interior Minister debunked rumours that he was taking sides, adding it was the prerogative of any group in Nandom to choose their leaders.

Naa Dr Puoure Puobe Chiir VII, Paramount Chief of Nandom Traditional Area, said the Kamba Bridge was in a very bad shape even though the irrigation project has been approved and appealed for it to be fixed to avoid a calamity.

He appealed to government to construct a railway line from Accra to Hamile to open up the area to economic opportunity with neighbouring countries.
The 29th Edition of the Kakube Festival celebration was held under the theme: “Self Reliance”.
