The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Aowin, Hon. Mathias Kwame Ntow, has bemoaned what he calls the loose security in the Parliament House of the Republic and called on the Minister for the interior to ensure that, Parliament in general and MP’s in particular, are properly secured.
According to him, as it stands now, MP’s are vulnerable and can easily fall prey to any eventuality.
Hon. Ntow made this known to pressmen in an interview in Parliament last Thursday.
According to him, he was appalled by an unfortunate situation on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, while en-route to Parliament. This situation, he observed, needed to be condemned in no uncertain terms.
He indicated that, Parliament has two gates – Western Gate by the state Protocol and the Main Gate opposite the Accra International Conference Centre – which MP’s, staff of parliament and Visitors use to enter Parliament.
He maintained that, on that fateful Tuesday, while entering Parliament via the Western Gate, which he has been using always, there were some security men who asked him to go through the main gate.
The reason being that, the Western Gate had been blocked as some foreigners (whites) were shooting a film there. As such, that gate had been closed even to MP’s.
He indicated that, having no alternative he had to comply with this order. But to his further chagrin, the 1st Deputy Speaker , Hon. Joe Osei-Owusu, who was using that very Western gate, had to be turned back to go and use the Main Gate, simply because foreigners were shooting a film there.
“Can you go to the flagstaff House and film the place?” he queried with fury: “This is our country, and this is our Parliament. We should therefore not stoop that low for foreigners to dictate to us!” he fumed further.
