"Rawlings and Kufuor Were Corrupt"

The Presidents perceived incorruptible nature is what is wining him more admirers and this came to light during the Joy FM organized debate at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra yesterday. One of the persons who appear to be in love with the Presidents incorruptible attitude is renowned economist, Mr. Kwame Pianim. Mr. Pianim asserts that President Mills has on at least two occasion returned two brown envelopes where they belong, a practice which was practically non-existent under John the first or John in apparent reference to ex-presidents Jerry John Rawlins and John Agyekum Kufuors regimes. According to the renowned economist and member of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Mr. Kwame Pianim, the country is lucky to have the former law professor as President because he will not steal from the people. Mr. Pianim, one of the lead discussants at the first Joy FM Debate was responding to a contributors question on why Ghana is not making much progress in her fight against corruption. Mr. Pianim said zero tolerance must involve everyone and must start from the top because the country is noted as a haven for corrupt leaders, but he was happy Professor Mills is the President to Ghana because he can vouch that, he will not steal from Ghanaians. The challenge however is how he makes sure those below him also tow his line. To me if you go to any country where there is corruption, the Head of state is corrupt, and fortunately for Ghana now, we have a president that at least I will put my hand in fire for that, he will not steal from the people. I have seen him on two occasions give envelops back and I didnts ee it happen under John the first or John the second, but at least now we are progressing and we have a president who I think will not steal from the people. How is he going to make sure that the people below him will also not do that - that is the question. The Debate was under the theme: Building Consensus On A National Development Agenda.
