Minority Slams Akufo Addo For Undermining Commitee’s Work...

The Minority in Parliament has slammed President Akufo -Addo for bastardizing  the work of the Parliament ad hoc committee investigating the alleged exhortion of monies from expatriates businessmen, following his description of the allegation as one of the flimsiest corruption claim made against his appointees.

The President Akufo-Addo in an encounter with the media on Wednesday said the allegations of extortion leveled against the Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyeremanten are flimsy and irresponsible.

“In fact, I think that the position that I have taken potentially…could lend me into a lot of problems which is to say that any allegation that is made against any appointee of mine will be investigated.

“And that opens you up for having to investigate even the flimsiest and irresponsible allegations that are made. …like for instance what is going on in parliament now,” he said.

But Member of Parliament for North Tongu Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa criticized the President’s comments that was aimed at dismissing the ongoing bi-partisan investigation into the matter which has gained national interest.

He said the President Akufo Addo has put the outcome of the investigations into jeopardy.

“It is prejudicial and sub judice, we don’t do that. The whole process has been undermined, he’s just bastardized the Special Committee’s work and the President should have restrained himself. Clearly the President’s conduct cannot be justified in law and not in good governance and in any serious democratic dispensation. It’s a no, no, no.  Nobody should attempt to defend it, it’s really a sad day for our democracy,” Okudzeto Ablakwa told Starr News.
