Suhum NPP Office Vandalised

The office of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Suhum Constituency has been attacked by some hooligans, who destroyed the glass doors and windows.

The suspects attempted to break the main door of office around 4am on Sunday.

Ernest Lartey, Constituency Secretary, told DAILY GUIDE that the suspects were looking for the party’s filled forms used in the ongoing primaries of the NPP.

“I left the office to take some rest at midnight on Saturday after working in the ongoing branch electoral polls. But this Sunday morning, my deputy called to inform me that someone attempted to break into the office. I suspect they came for the party’s filled forms and the laptop for their own reasons,” he said.

He said, “I have informed the police who would commence investigation into the matter and bring those behind it to book. The party’s property must not be destroyed under any circumstance. We must all exercise patience.”

Forms being used for the polling station registration have become topical in recent times.

Some party members have accused the constituency executives of allegedly hijacking the nomination forms in order to give them to their cronies.

Last week, a group, made up of supposed members of the NPP, filed a suit in court, praying for injunction on the entire election in the constituency due to alleged electoral irregularities.

However, the Constituency Secretary said the process is going because the party hasn’t received any court order to halt the polls at the polling stations.

At the regional level, the Regional Elections Committee says it has distributed over 48,645 forms to the 33 constituencies, which have been sold to aspirants in 3,243 polling stations in the region.

There have been skirmishes in constituencies like Yilo Krobo, Aburi, New Juaben South, Akroso Manso Asene, Nkawkaw, Abirim and Atiwa West owing to the development.

At Yilo Krobo, there was misunderstanding over the shortage of the party forms.

The Financial Secretary, Dr Gabriel Odoh Apotey, who is aspiring for the Constituency Chairmanship post, denied the allegations, stating that the problems would be addressed.
