Broadcasting Bill to be passed by March next year

Vice President John Dramani Mahama has assured the media that the Broadcasting Bill would be passed into Law by March 2010 to make broadcasting more beneficial to society. In a speech read for him by Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Communications at a symposium held to climax activities marking the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Ghana Community Radio Network (GCRN) at Tetsonya, near Big Ada, Mr Mahama disclosed that the Bill had received Cabinet assent and would be laid before Parliament presently. The Vice President said a five-member local consultative group would be employed to read the Bill and make recommendations to the government. He assured Ghanaians that government would fulfil its campaign promises to the people. Mr Mahama congratulated GCRN for the successes chalked over the years in building their communities with their voices, and maintaining high standards. He said plans were far advanced for the establishment of a Community FM Radio Station in every district in the country. The symposium was jointly organised by the United Nations Democracy Fund and the World Bank.
