The National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams says the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) is gradually losing its credibility with their ways of handling serious crime issues.

He noted that the specialized crime agency has not been on top of issue in the matter of some top officers accused of misappropriating GH¢480,177.87 of the Electoral Commission’s (EC’s) staff Endowment Fund.

“Their style of work is creating doubts around them and that is something we should worry about”, Mr. Adams noted. 

EOCO was alleged to have cleared top officers of the EC for embezzling state funds – but the Organised Crime Office later issued a communiqué denying the publication by DAILY GUIDE.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by ACP K.K. Amoah (Rtd), Acting Executive Director of EOCO, stated, “The attention of the authority at the EOCO has been drawn to the banner headline of the 23rd January, 2018 edition of the DAILY GUIDE newspaper that ‘EOCO Clears EC Top Officers.’ “We wish to emphatically and categorically state that no such clearance has been issued by this Office to any of the Officers of the Electoral Commission.”

Mr. Amoah also said, “The attribution that ‘EC Chairperson is said to be manipulating EOCO’ is blatant falsehood and needs to be condemned. The general public is invited to disregard the said publication. EOCO will issue a statement on this matter.”

Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show dubbed ‘Ghana Montie’, Kofi Adams was of a view that some legal actions must be taken against DAILY GUIDE for spreading falsehood.

“They must be called to prove their publication”, he opined. 

According to him, the anti-graft body is to be blamed for the brouhaha surrounding the issue – “If they (EOCO) have not cleared the top officers, why didn’t they state that categorically in their statement?”

“They should let Ghanaians know the find fact truth about the issue. They should make available their investigation findings. Why are they keeping it as a secret?” he questioned.
