2 Pupils Die As Classroom Collapses

Two school children died and one other sustained injuries when their classroom block collapsed at Kwafokrom near Nsawam in the Eastern Region on Friday.

The victims, all of Akufokrom Municipal Assembly (MA) Basic School, were identified as Harriet Tetteh, 12, and Adiza Abdulai, eight, both deceased, and the injured Ramatu Mohammed, 12, is responding to treatment.

The bodies of the deceased had been deposited at the Nsawam Government Hospital Mortuary for autopsy and preservation.

The Nsawam District Police Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kofi Sakordie confirmed the tragedy to the Ghanaian Times yesterday.

He said at about 11:40a.m. on February 2, the Command received a distressed call and proceeded to the scene.

The Crime Officer said the police gathered that the children were playing in the classroom when the incident occurred and got trapped.

He said Adiza died on the spot but Harriet died whilst receiving treatment at the hospital.

ASP Sakordie stated that investigations into the case were ongoing.
