The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has advised its members to remain calm for the Joint Transport Fares Review Committee to complete its work on the fuel increases and other components.

It said the Committee, which is comprised of the GPRTU, the Ghana Road Coordinating Council, Ministry of Transport and other transport operators, have followed the issues and thought that engagement and dialogue were the way forward and not strike actions.

Mr Emmanuel Nii Ankrah, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the GPRTU gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency and called on the Ministry of Transport to expedite action on calling for a meeting to resolve the issues.

“There is pressure from the drivers of the Union on the national and regional executives, hence there is the need for the Transport Ministry to act expeditiously to avoid eminent strike by the drivers,” he said.

Mr Ankrah asked the drivers to exercise utmost restraint at this trying moment as the Union took up the issues with the government authorities.
