Amidu's Approval As Special Prosecutor Is "Victory For Democracy" - Allotey Jacobs

Allotey Jacobs, NDC Central Regional Chairman, has described the approval of Martin Amidu as Special Prosecutor as "victory for democracy".

According to him, Martin Amidu is the best person to hold such position looking at his credentials for combating corruption.

The Appointments Committee of Parliament has approved the nomination of Mr Martin Amidu as Special Prosecutor.

By a majority decision, he was voted and approved to conduct investigations into corruption-related offences of all persons in public service and prosecute them in the court of law.

The former Attorney General was on Tuesday, 13 February 2018, vetted by the Appointments Committee of parliament.

Commenting on the issue on 'Kokrokoo' on Peace FM, Allotey Jacobs affirmed the character of Mr. Amidu saying "I know Martin as a principled man and I will keep on saying it whether you like it or not. I will say it. He’s principled. You can’t take that away from him. When it comes to that office, he’s the best man for that job”.

"For me, I’ve never objected to the appointment of Martin Amidu…It has come to pass that he has been approved and he’s going to get his office. I know his character and I won’t give him a bad name. The only thing I can say is that he’s unmanageable and very temperamental. But every human being has his weakness. Nobody is perfect on this earth . . . " he added.

Mr. Amidu, during his vetting, has pledged absolute commitment to the fight against corruption without any bias.

He promised to execute his duties fairly and neutral ensuring that any person found culpable will face the full rigors of the law.
