Tame The 'Animal' In You – Kweku Baako To Ghanaian Police Unit On UN Missions

Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide, Kweku Baako has admonished security personnel working with the U.N on peacekeeping assignments to exercise utmost discipline and self-control in the dispensation of their duties as any irresponsible act from them in line of duty will have adverse effects on the country’s image.

His comments come on the back of reports of sexual misconduct of some personnel from the Ghanaian Police Unit. Allegations emerging suggest that the officers in question were having transactional sex with women living at one of the protection camps with gifts or favours given in exchange for the encounters.

Speaking on the issue on Joynews’ Newsfile program Saturday, Kweku Baako said though it is inherent in men the urge for sex, such desires should be ‘tamed’ especially when there are outlined guidelines guarding their work.

“People who go on these assignments; the police, military must exercise discipline, but sometimes the animal in us is so dangerous, we have to find a way of taming the animal in us. We all have animals in us, the fact that you are a soldier or a policeman doesn’t mean you don’t have that animal in you. But of course if you go out there and you are unable to discipline or tame the animal in you and you do this, you pay a price”, he stated.

He bemoaned the negative repercussions the subject may have on Ghana’s image particularly on the international front.

“I feel sorry because of the possible collateral damage that it may have on our reputation which has been built over a period so to that extent its an unfortunate thing. I’m hoping investigations may not make it look as big as it appears now because as a Ghanaian I feel it”.
