The Eastern and Volta Zonal Office of the Food and Drugs Board (FDB) this year destroyed drugs and food products worth more than 10,000 Ghana cedis.
Some of the goods, which are unwholesome, expired or unregistered included canned foods, biscuits, margarines, tooth pastes, milk, beverages, body creams and drugs.
Mr. Roderick Daddey-Adjei, the Zonal Officer of the Board disclosed this to the press in Ho on Tuesday, during the destruction the products seized in the two regions.
The exercise, which was part of the board's post market surveillance activities, was supervised by officials from the Environmental Protection Agency.
Mr Daddey-Adjei said the move was not a witch-hunting exercise.
"We are particular about public safety," he stressed.
He appealed to the media to help the board in its educational programmes to completely "wipe out unwholesome, expired and unregistered goods from our markets".
Mr. Daddey-Adjei appealed to consumers to look out for the boards registered number in addition to the Ghana Standard Board's logo on all locally manufactured products before patronising them.
Mr. Geoffrey Arthur, Regulatory Officer of the board advised retailers and consumers to keep food and drugs under specified conditions, to maintain their wholesomeness.
He cautioned consumers to avoid patronising unwholesome, expired and unregistered products as they could damage their vital organs.
