Fake ACP Apprehended By Tema Police Command

A 33-year-old man who posed as an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to defraud unsuspecting people is in the grips of the Tema Police Command.

Joshua Asante, who also claimed to be an IT expert from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), was arrested by the Ashaiman police for impersonation and defrauding on May 10, 2018.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Joseph Benefo Darkwah, Public Relations Officer for the Tema Regional Police Command, told the Ghana News Agency that Asante was arrested for impersonation and defrauding.

DSP Darkwah said the suspect used the fake ACP title to persuade his victims who were mostly his fellow church members to part with various sums of money amounting GH¢6,100.00.

Asante, he noted, convinced his victims that the money would be used to enlist into the Ghana Police Service.

After failing to honour his promise, his victims reported him to the Ashaiman Police leading to his arrest.

The PRO added that Asante who was currently in custody, would be arraigned before the court after investigations.
