The former Black Stars midfielder shares his opinion on the way forward for Ghana football after the recent corruption scandal.
 
Former Ghana captain Charles 'CK' Akonnor wants past national stars to be involved in the 'reconstruction' of the country's football after recent troubles.

The game has been brought to a standstill following an indefinite suspension on all matches after a screening of an investigative documentary which exposed top officials and referees of the football association in various practices of corruption and match-fixing. 

FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi consequently relinquished his post as the Ghanaian government takes steps to dissolve the football governing body for a new unit. 

“I think what we saw in the Anas exposé [documentary] is bad, but it has already happened," Akonnor said on Football 360.

"From now on, we should be focused on how to clean up the system.

"I feel former players should have a role to play. 

"They have played at the top level and know what the problems are. 

"Not necessarily an ex-player being the next FA president but they should be involved at every level. 

"Tony Baffoe, Sammy Kuffour and maestro Abedi Pele are all there.”

Despite his call, Akonnor does not want to be considered for a role in the new administrative body. 

“No [I don't want to be involved]," the former VfL Wolfsburg skipper, now head coach of local topflight Ashanti Gold, declared. 

"We all have our strengths. I am a coach enjoying myself but other ex-players have the capacity to do administrative work.”

Government has named an interim body to run football until a long-term structure is put in place.
