Security at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) and other entry points into the country have been enhanced following the peddling of narcotic drugs.
Frank Adofo Adjei, an officer at the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB), speaking on Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM hosted by Chief Jerry Forson Tuesday June 26 on the occasion of the World Drugs Day, said, as part of the new security arrangements, officers of the NACOB have been given a special training in identifying persons who may be travelling with drugs on them.
“Security at Kotoka has been enhanced as part of the fight against narcotics. We have also trained NACOB officials on how to effectively detect people who carry drugs on them,” Mr Adjei told host Forson.
He added: “Due to this arrangement I will urge those who intend to engage in drug trafficking because in their view there is a weak security at the KIA, they should reconsider their thoughts.
“Even if they manage to beat the security here in Ghana they will be arrested either at the Heathrow or JFK and so they shouldn’t.”
World Drug Day is a day set aside by United Nations’ International to create awareness and also fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
