NPA Engages Council Of State On Cylinder Recirculation

Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Alhassan Tampuli has assured that the jobs of Ghanaians remain protected under the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Cylinder Recirculation Model.

He further assured that their jobs are going to be the fulcrum of the policy when it is finally rolled out.

At a meeting to brief members of the Council of State on the policy yesterday in Accra, Tampuli stated that the key reasons for the policy include that of the need to improve safety and health in the value chain.

He added that it is also to respond to the question of affordability, availability and accessibility across the country.

The meeting was to solicit for their support for the implementation of the policy.
Tampuli reiterated that about 18 companies have applied so far for LPG bottling companies’ license as part of the objectives of the cylinder recirculation programme.

Screening for these companies, he stated, has begun and the NPA hopes issuing of the license would begin next month.

He indicated that his outfit has put together implementation committee and a sub-committee that has completed the first phase of their work, which has made it possible for them to start this work.

He added that other licensing regimes are also in the pipeline, and these requirements have been circulated to members of the committee, which is made up of members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Mines and Energy, Ghana Standard Authority, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Fire Service.

Chairman of the council, Nana Otuo Siriboe II, who chaired the meeting, advised the authority to continue with its consultation process in order to incorporate the views of everyone expected to be affected by the policy, noting that at the end of the day, the policy should be beneficial to everyone.

The NPA has been carrying out sustained consultation with various stakeholders since it announced the policy to ensure views are incorporated into a workable document acceptable by the various interested parties.
