Man remanded in police custody over the death of another man

The Apam District Magistrate's Court has remanded a 37-year old man from Moree, Kow Wiredu, in police custody for throwing an object at a man at Gomoa Dago, which later resulted in his death. The plea of Wiredu was not taken and the court presided over by Mr. Charles Wiafe ordered him to re-appear on January 11 2010. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Sampson Diekpor, told the court that on March 19 last year, a fierce fight ensued between the deceased, Mr. Kobina Donkor and Wiredu at the Gomoa Dago beach after an argument. The prosecution said during the fight, Donkor suffered a severe neck and throat pain as a result of an object thrown at him by the accused which resulted in his death on April 22 2009. He said on hearing of the death of the victim, the accused went into hiding until December 23 2009 when he was arrested at Apam upon a tip-off. Mr. Cab-Addae, a Cape Coast legal practitioner is counsel for the accused.
