The former President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, has entreated Ghanaians to desist from putting pressure on state authorities to start regulating activities of churches in the country, even if the attitudes and behaviors of some pastors and church leaders are not the best.

Rather, he suggested religious bodies and organizations under which the churches fall should bring moderating effects on the errant pastors and leaders. Mr. Mahama made the suggestion in an interview with Adom Kasee.

In recent times, several opinions have been expressed that the government should start regulating activities of churches, particularly the ‘one-man-churches’, because some of their leaders’  attitudes and behaviors look un-Christian and questionable.

At the dedication of a chapel of the Ringway Assemblies of God, Osu here in Accra, Adom Kasee caught up with the ex-President, who was a key personality in policy making until recently, and sought his opinion on the issue.

His suggestion was that Ghanaians should leave the corrections and sanctions to religious organizations such as the Christian Council of Ghana, Ghana Pentecostal Council and Charismatic Council; as they are best placed to deal with the charlatan pastors.
