Akpeteshie Laced With Wee Seller Nabbed

A 34 year old trader, arrested with four big plastic containers of “akpetsehie,” a local alcoholic drink laced with suspected cannabis sativa, on Thursday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.

     Adjoa Frimpomaa, who is also a drinking bar operator has pleaded not guilty to a charge of possession of narcotic drugs.

     The court presided over by Mrs Afi Agbanu Kudomor admitted Frimpomaa to bail in the sum of GHC20,000.00 with one surety, who should be gainfully employed. She is expected to reappear on September 27.

     Prosecuting Chief Inspector Victor Dosoo said the complainants were Police officers stationed at Kwabenya while the accused person reside at Tiafa, Accra.

     Prosecution said on September 3, this year, at about 1300 hours, the complainants were on their normal patrols when they gathered intelligence that the suspect was selling alcoholic drinks laced with narcotic substances at her drinking spot.

     Chief Inspector Dosoo said the team of police officers visited Frimpomaa’s drinking spot at Taifa-Mr Agyei.

     A search conducted at the drinking spot led to the discovery of four big plastic containers of “akpeteshie,” a local gin laced with plant materials suspected to be cannabis.

     Additionally one and half gallons of similar drinks were also found.

     The prosecutor said Frimpomaa was arrested and the drinks seized. A formal report was made and the suspected narcotic substances had been sent to the Police Forensic Science Laboratory for analytical examination.
