Court fines driver GHC 480 for traffic offences

Mutawa Kiloo, a driver, has been sentenced to a fine of GHC 480 by the Asamankese Circuit Court for traffic offences. In default, he would be imprisoned for nine months in hard labour. Kiloo pleaded guilty to four counts of careless and inconsiderate driving, negligently causing harm, overloading the vehicle and failing to provide proper sitting places for two passengers. Prosecuting, Police Inspector Peter Azigi, said at about 0430 hours, Kiloo was driving from Akyem Takyimang to Accra loaded with passengers and fruits. While he was ascending a hill at the outskirts of Aworase, near Asamankese, the vehicle went into a ditch, leading to the injury of Lydia Adobea and four other passengers on board. They were rushed to Government hospital at Asamankese where they were treated and discharged. The prosecutor said the vehicle was examined by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority and found to be in perfect condition prior to the accident.
