Robbers Invade Tema

FOLLOWING FOUR separate daylight armed robbery incidents recorded in the Tema Metropolis in less than a week, the Regional Police Command seems to be in a state of shock.

Trade establishments in the metropolis appeared to be under attack, after a reported armed looting of a shop belonging to the wife of a former Member of Parliament (MP) at Lebanon, a suburb of Ashaiman.

The robbers who embarked on the successful criminal operations using motorbikes and cars managed to attack the business entities and bolted with cash and properties without any struggle.

On Friday October 26, 2018, for instance, there were robbery incidents at Community 8 Shell Filling Station and Starbite restaurant.

Barely three days after, the robbers used Pontiac Vibe vehicle with registration number GN 3731 to attack Kaysen Gas Filling Station at Community 2 in a daylight action.

That same day, another robbery occurred at Top Up Pharmacy at Community 4 but this time, the robbers used two motorbikes, bringing the horrible incidents to three.

The gunmen made away with bags containing personnel effects and electrical gadgets, unspecified amount of money, properties, merchandises among others, belonging to workers of the respective institutions they robbed; rendering the workers naturally traumatized.

As a result of the incidents, Tema Regional Police Commander, DCOP Edward Johnson Oyifi-Akrofi was said to have convened an emergency senior officers meeting yesterday to find antidote to the alleged robberies.

DSP Joseph Benefo Darkwah, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Tema Regional Police Command mentioned that the Command was in a meeting over the situation and had commenced investigations into the alleged incidents.

The worrying situation is raising concern over the security of residents in the Tema Metropolis.
