Algeria is in Group A with host country: Ghana, Mali and Cameroon and would be playing at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Algeria women’s national football team is nicknamed ‘The Fennecs.’ is currently ranked 79th in the world in the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) women’s rankings.

The team’s highest ranking was 64th, in June 2009. Algeria has never qualified for a Women’s World Cup.

The Fennecs have played in four different edition of African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON), in 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2014 and only finished in the group stages.

They are however expected to become the first North African Country to participate in a Women’s World Cup if they are able to reach at least the semi-final, despite it looking like a daunting task for the North African side.

Algeria secured qualification to this year’s AWCON in Ghana with a big aggregate win, after a 3-2 away victory to Ethiopia. The result gave the North Africans a 6-3 overall success and ensured their qualification.

Head coach is Azzedinne Chih and their captain is Fatima Sekouane are key inspirational figures behind the team, whilst the likes goal poacher Naiima Benziane Bouheni, Khadidja Khelifouche and Fayrouz BenyoubThe Fennecs are the other prospects to look out for.

They would open their campaign against the Black Queens of Ghana on Saturday November 17 in an encounter that, would be difficult to over come taking into consideration the fact that, Ghana is the host nation.
