AWCON: Nigeria's Super Falcons Thump Zambia

The Super Falcons of Nigeria defeated Zambia 4- 0 in the second group match of this year's Africa Women's Cup of Nations at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

Goals from Amarachi Okoronkwo, Rasheedat Ajibade, Desire Oparanozie and Francisca Ordega ensured an emphatic victory for Super Falcons, after their opening day loss to South Africa.

The Zambians started the game with defensive game plan and curtailed the attacking prowess of the Super Falcons in the opening minutes of the game.

The She-polopolo, gave the defending champions a very stern task of penetrating their defence, but Oparanozie gave the Super Falcons the lead on 41st minute mark, after she beautifully teed up by Ordega.

Nigeria went into recess with the slim lead and continued their relentless pressure on the Zambian defence for their second goal after recess.

Zambian goalkeeper Nali, did pull off some good saves to deny the Nigeria a second goal but Ordega's 69th minute strike proved to powerful for the Zambian shot-stopper.

Substitute Ajibade, got Nigeria their third goal on 75th minute mark after driving a ferocious right footed shot past the Zambian goalkeeper.

Another substitute Okoronkwo completed a resounding win for the Super Falcons, with a late-gasp strike to ensure maximum points for the defending champions.

Nigeria would lock horns with Equatorial Guinea in the last group match as they quest to progress to the semi-finals of the competition.
