NUGS Nominates Mr. Kingsley Sarpong Akowuah To The Centralized University Admission And Placement Service Committee

The National Union of Ghana Students and the University Students Association of Ghana on Tuesday 15th January, 2019 met with the Minister In Charge of Tertiary Education, Prof Yankah to discuss pertinent tertiary educational related issues.

The discussion which was centered on the Tertiary Education Policy by the Ministry of Education include issues of high cost of residential and academic user fees especially for private universities, accommodation issues on various public and private universities and the centralised university admission and Placement Service.

At the meeting, the NUGS and USAG executives propounded that there must be regulations for the fees for private universities to ensure that there is reduction to make it less difficult for private universities .

The meeting also touched on the need for there to be a representative from the National Union of Ghana Students on the Centralized University Admission and Placement Service to bring in the input of students especially from tertiary student leaders.

The request was accepted by Minister of State In Charge of Tertiary Education and Mr. Kingsley Sarpong Akowuah was nominated by the NUGS President, Tinkaro Asare Osei to be on the committee.

"Mr. Kingsley Sarpong Akowuah, who is the President of the University Students' Association of Ghana will fairly represent the position of students on the committee."

Mr. Kingsley Sarpong Akowuah in his acceptance speech stated that the position, views, suggestions and criticisms of the students in Ghana will be factored in the final report by the committee to help make the policy a success.

The President of NUGS, Tinkaro Asare Osei stated that the Student body has confidence in our nominee, Mr. Kingsley Sarpong Akowuah to do a good work. Also, NUGS together with USAG will visit member institutions to get their input and suggestions concerning this new policy by the Ministry of Education.
