Ignore The Fake News...CEOs Are Being Engaged, No Directives Issued Yet! - Gov't

Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Minister for Information has debunked reports that 8 CEOs have been sacked by President Akufo-Addo.

"Government has not written to any CEO to retire…it’s not true" the minister who doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ofoase-Ayirebi constituency said.

He, however, pointed out that some Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) who have reached the retirement age are "being engaged by government", though "no directives" have been issued to them to step down.

The minister, who was speaking in an interview on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', with host Kwami Sefa Kayi, said government would have issued an official statement indicating that these number of appointees have been relieved of their duties.

Government has not written to any CEO to retire…it’s not true. We need to be cautious in our reportage. There’s no such directive to these CEOs. It is only one person who has been engaged in such matters."

"....there are age constraints to how long one may serve in the public service. And once the age constraint come up, such persons will be engaged and a final decision announced to the nation. These are senior members so it will not be surprising for anyone to come out with such stories but as at this morning; no such order has been given,
” he indicated.

He has also in the spirit of fighting fake news, urged the media to crosscheck any information they come across before making it public.

Last week, social media was awash with the news that eight Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) have been asked to leave office by March 2019.
