We Can't Use Magic To Develop Ghana - Kusi Boafo

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Public Sector Reforms Mr. Kusi Boafo has asked Ghanaians to remain calm and repose their confidence in the Akufo-Addo government to salvage the economy.

Making submissions on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' on Monday, January 28, 2019; Mr. Kusi Boafo noted that the government has "overworked" in its two years of administration to put the country on firm economic grounds.

He advised Ghanaians to gleefully rally their support behind the government because it will take a collective effort to cause significant developments in the various sectors of the economy.

For the last two years, this government has overworked. Ghanaians have also done well. Ghanaians have sacrificed and the government as well has sacrificed . . . ” he said.

Outlining some social interventions by the government to ease the plight of Ghanaians, Mr. Kusi Boafo explained that due to poor management of the economy by the previous government under the leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama, the government has had to pay arrears to the tune of 19.4 billion cedis covering health insurance, tax refund, road contractors and so forth.

He also added that the government raised about 8 billion cedis to cushion local banks in the country in order to save the crippling financial sector.

Also, the government has made about 14 billion banking reforms and also added 87 billion to Ghana's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to enhance the development of the economy; he further stated.

With these interventions by the government, he believed the government is on the right track, putting pragmatic measures in place to clear the economic mess that was created by the erstwhile Mahama government.

He however was of a strong view an economic change can be possible when Ghanaians keep supporting the government.

"Ghana, we can’t use magic. We will go through the processes of sacrifices, development and sustenance," he stated.
