We Don’t Care About By-election Final Results, NPP Can Do As They Wish - NDC Chairman

The National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has stated categorically that his party is no longer interested in the ongoing by-election at Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency.

He reiterated that his party NDC has concluded after the grisly injuries sustained by seven (7) of their members that the NDC does not care about the outcome of the by-election.

Speaking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo said the NDC as a party will not be part of the collating and declaration of the final results in the by-election; urging the NPP to "do whatever they want with" the polls.

"We don’t care and we won’t be part of the collating of the results and so they [NPP] should do their own thing. We are going to our party headquarters and issue our official statement. I am confirming that NDC has directed our party agents to withdraw from the polling stations,” he averred.

According to the NDC National Chairman, the blood stains and the guns they saw on their way to their Parliamentary Candidate’s house convinced them to hold an emergency meeting with their candidate and also confer with their Regional, National Executives and some of their Council of Elders on the best way out of the situation.

The way our Parliamentary Candidate’s residence has been vandalised and the blood stains all over the house and the open intimidation from gun-toting NPP activists made us come to this decision . . . the NDC does not want anybody to lose their lives because of this by-election,” he stated.

"Currently, 7 people have suffered gun-shot wounds and we don’t know what will happen by close of the day when results are being collated.

“If the security of our members cannot be guaranteed, then we as a party feel that the best decision to take is to withdraw from the by-election," he emphasized.
