By-election Violence: Lydia Seyram Alhassan Foots Bill of Victim

The newly elected Member of Parliament [MP] for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan has given an amount of Five thousand [5,000] Ghana Cedis to foot the bill of an injured victim at her constituency during the by-election last Thursday.

Peace FM’s Gladys Boakye who accompanied the Ayawaso West Wuogon MP to the 37 Military hospital to visit a victim, Yaro, reported that the NPP MP was sad about the unfortunate shootings and condemned the act.

The victim Yaro, who was responding to treatment was very grateful to the newly elected MP for the kind gessture.

Lydia Seyram Alhassan promised to cater for any other additional bill accumulated when he is discharged from the hospital.

Meanwhile, she has expressed disappointment at the minority’s attitude towards her when she was being sworn-in yesterday (Tuesday) at Parliament.

She said she can't understand why women of the minority would join their colleagues to walk out of the House when a woman is being sworn-in.

"Yet they are the same people who are always advocating that more women join the house.

“I believe time will fill my wounds and time will definitely tell my story,” she sadly said.

The conduct of the Minority NDC in Parliament has received widespread condemnation including its own Chief Whip Muntaka Mubarak.

“Let us all not pretend to be hypocrites; when it happening on your side then it is good, when it happening on the other side then you cry foul. Let us standardize what we do. Mr. Speaker let me say that what we did yesterday was within parliamentary procedure. If others had placards it is wrong just as it has always been happening in this chamber and we keep condemning it.

“But when people want to narrow it to our dear colleague Honorable Lydia Alhassan, let say that is very unfortunate because she does not control the security agencies, she doesn’t influence anything. We need cool heads and take the issues that have happened without trying sideline the main issues with some of people lying in hospitals,” he said.
