New Regions: Gh¢20m Seed Capital Is Enough For Now – Local Gov't Expert

A Local Government Expert, George Kyei-Baffour has said he disagrees with persons saying that government’s ¢20 million seed capital to each of the newly created regions is insufficient.

According to him, the money is “okay” for the start after commending government for its bold decision to birth the new regions.

Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’, George Kyei-Baffour explained that, some districts in the newly created regions are already benefiting from government's developmental projects.

“Government must educate the people on this so they don’t think otherwise. Developments are already going on in some districts in these new regions,” he said.

The Regional Reorganisation Minister disclosed that the newly created regions will get ¢20 million each as seed capitals.

Daniel Kweku Botwe said in anticipation of the referendum, “the 2019 budget made a GH¢20 million allocation per region as seed money for the provision of critical infrastructure to enable the new regions to take off smoothly.”

The Okere MP said government afterwards would provide more funding to accelerate the growth of those new regions.
