UEW Vice Chancellor Afful-Broni Must Resign - Afenyo-Markin

The Member of Parliament for Effutu Constituency, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called for the dismissal of the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University of Education, Rev. Father Afful-Broni.

According to him, "he has failed the university and he has misled all of us".

Afenyo-Markin's call follows reports of victimization by the VC towards some lecturers in the university.

Meanwhile, two lecturers of the university have been dismissed by the VC for various alleged offenses.

Speaking in an interview on Citi Eyewitness news, Monday, the Efutu MP questioned the character and attitude of Afful-Broni especially in his position as a Reverend Father; a 'priest'.

"It is sad that Afful-Broni does not want to listen to anybody in terms of advise . . . he will be solely responsible for his actions . . . I am disappointed; I am very angry that a priest who must be forgiving . . . I am hurt because this man created the impression that he could do better; if he has a conscience, he should resign; how can you destroy people’s lives. I will not support victimization; the government will not support victimization.

"I find it strange that the very thing Avoke (Professor Mawutor Avoke; former VC) and co were doing that students and workers were up in arms are being repeated. We fought on principle, and then you come in and defeat that purpose even some of the allowances that you claim were illegal you are still receiving them. I am sure in the next few days the appropriate thing will be done; it is about the school and not victimisation. There has been a conversation and that will lead to proper healing and reconciliation," he added.

Background

It can be recalled that Afenyo-Markin, played a role in the removal of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, Professor Mawutor Avoke.

The Supreme Court quashed a Winneba High court decision that led to their suspension and subsequent dismissal of Prof. Avoke.

Subsequently, lawyers of dismissed former Vice-Chancellor wrote to the school’s Governing Council directing it to prepare the office of their client to enable him to resume work.

Prior to this period, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, swore Reverend Father Professor Anthony Afful-Broni, as the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).

This was amidst a warning by law Professor Raymond Atuguba to President Nana Akufo-Addo for abetting illegality because the induction happened pending the case challenging the removal of the immediate past Vice-Chancellor.
