NDC Suspends Party Activities In Honour of Late Chairman, Dr. Kwabena Adjei

The National Democratic Congress has suspended various activities in honour of their late Chairman, Dr. Kwabena Adjei.

The former National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Chairman passed on at age 76, Tuesday at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge) following a protracted illness.

Speaking in an interview with Peace FM News, former National Organizer of the party, Mr. Kofi Adams says party flags will also be flying at half mast all in honour of their late Chairman.

"These are trying times for the party and we urge Ghanaians to remember us in prayers."

Dr. Adjei lost his Chairmanship position to former National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Coordinator, Mr. Kofi Portuphy who himself was recently succeeded by Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo.

Dr. Adjei graduated with a PhD in Research Methods and Statistics in Psychology from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland, U.K in 1973.

He ventured into politics in 1978, getting elected as a Council member of the Jasikan District Council in the Volta region.

The Psychology lecturer’s political decline began in 2014 after he lost his National Chairmanship post to Kofi Portuphy.

It ended his bid for a third tenure after first winning the position in 2005 while the party was in opposition.

He was re-elected in 2009.

NDC Mourns The Passing Of Former Chairman Dr. Kwabena Adjei

The National Democratic Congress announces with a heavy heart and deep sorrow, the sudden passing of our Former National Chairman Dr. Kwabena Adjei, whose departure occurred at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital after a shot illness in the early hours Tuesday, March 12, 2019.

Dr. Kwabena Adjei until his passing was a member of the Council of Elders of the party, a Former Member of Parliament for Biakoye Constituency, a Former PNDC Deputy Secretary for Volta Region and Former PNDC Deputy Secretary for Industries, Science & Technology.

He also served as a Former Minister for Lands & Forestry, Former Minister for Food & Agriculture and Former Minister for Parliamentary Affairs in the 4th Republic.

The Functional Executive Committee has declared three (3) days of mourning in memory of our Former Leader. During this period all party flags should fly at half-mast and all party activities suspended.

As a consequence, the NEC Meeting and the Induction Ceremony of the Flagbearer scheduled for tomorrow Wednesday 13th March, 2019 has been postponed and a new date will be communicated in due course.
