Member of Parliament (MP) for Tarkwa-Nsuaem constituency, George Mireku Duker has reiterated government's commitment to resolve the energy challenges confronting the economy.

Since Tuesday, March 12, 2019, there have been consistent power cuts with some areas in the capital city going totally dark days and nights.

The recent intermittent power supply has raised concerns among Ghanaians and some political figures playing the political card with the issue.

With some people describing the situation as a return of "dumsor" that occurred during the regime of Ex-President John Dramani Mahama, it has become pertinent for the government and the energy providers to improve the energy sector.

Speaking to sit-in host Nana Yaw Kesseh on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" programme, Hon. Mireku Duker reassured Ghanaians that President Nana Akufo-Addo together with government appreciates the current power challenges and working assiduously to ensure Ghanaians enjoy frequent power supply.

He disclosed that the power cuts were as a result of the road construction work that is ongoing at Pokuase which has affected some transmission lines, hence compelling the energy provider - GRIDCO - to shut down supply to some communities in the capital city.

Hon. Mireku Duker was optimistic the problem will be soon rectified.

“I’m reassuring Ghanaians that the President will not sit down for us to go back to dumsor and we’re determined to make sure each and every hamlet will have light," he said.

GRIDCO & PDS

Meanwhile the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCO) has written to the Power Distribution Service (PDS) requesting load shedding from 8.00hrs to 18.00hrs each day on affected PDS MV/LV lines.

The request for load shedding on PDS MV/LV lines has become necessary, according to GRIDCO, due to the diversion of 330KV Aboadze-Volta transmission line at Pokuase to facilitate the interchange construction works being undertaken by the Department of Urban Roads at Pokuase.

GRIDCO however accepted blame for the total blackout in some parts of the country and apologized to Ghanaians, stating emphatically that "immediately the situation is rectified, power supply will be restored to affected customers".
