Collapsed GRIDCo Pylon: What Is NDC’s Problem With Amewu's 'Saboteurs' Comment? - Nana Damoah Quizzes

Head of Public Affairs for the Energy Ministry, Nana Kofi Damoah has asked members of the NDC to come clear on why they can’t fathom the Energy Minister, Peter Amewu's remarks that he suspects the collapse of the GRIDCo pylon was a political sabotage.

“Indeed what explanation can one give to such an incident that gadgets used in causing the harm were left at the scene? Who can say this is an unforeseen occurrence?” he asked.

He said the Minister made his comments based on the pictures he saw when he personally visited the scene.

Nana Kofi Damoah furiously argued on UTV’s late news that he can’t wrap his head around why members of the NDC seemed offended by the Minister’s statement when he did not apportion any blame to them.

“ . . But what can we call it if it is not sabotage due to the circumstances surrounding the scene which does not show that the destroyer had an intention of stealing anything from the site  . . .  it is very clear that it was a sabotage,” he maintained.

According to him, members of the NDC can make all the propaganda speeches they want, but all the Energy Minister is saying is that “the said act was deliberately caused by a human being to disrupt electricity supply by destroying the pole . . .  with intention to sabotage”.

GRIDCo Pylon Saboteurs "Animals, Thieves" – Amewu

Energy Minister, John Peter Amewu, on Monday condemned the destruction of some pylons near the head office of state power transmitter Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), describing the perpetrators as “thieves” and “animals”.

The pylons, which were destroyed on Monday, 25 March 2018, were discovered by some GRIDCo staff.

Mr Amewu, who inspected the destruction in the course of the day, pointed out that there were measures to protect such installations and other strategic national assets.

He, however, added that the authorities “cannot be everywhere at every time and some of these thieves, some of these animals in our society will do things just to outwit the security”.

In his opinion, the action by the suspects constitutes “a complete sabotage” of the work of the power distributors.
