Suspend Importation of Guns…It Poses Security Threat – Kakra Essamuah

The Communications Director of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Kakra Essamuah is asking government to suspend importation of arms into the country, until emerging security threats such as kidnapping, vigilantism and terrorism are dealt with.

It would be recalled that recently, the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority at the Tema Port intercepted a forty-foot container loaded with guns imported from the United States of America.

A private company, Yardco Ghana Limited, imported the guns into the country and declared them as hunting guns.

Speaking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Programme, Mr. Kakra Essamuah stated that news of the importation of guns poses a lot of tension in the country when it is not yet time for election 2020.

According to him the guns were not imported into the country by the security agencies but rather an individual company which causes a lot of panicking in the life of Ghanaians.

“I said the government should suspend importation of guns because as it stands, the level of t errorism in the Northern part of Ghana have increased over the years, there are unresolved murder cases in the country which needs to be addressed and also the issue of vigilantism which also poses a threat to this country…,”

He maintained that government should suspend all license of importation of arm guns until security issues are properly addressed “because we don’t know who his target markets are, whether he will sell it to terrorists, vigilantes, kidnappers or armed robbers," he quizzed.
