It is Not True, Agyenim Boateng Is Lying Kufuors Spokesperson

The Spokesperson for ex-President Kufuor, Frank Agyekum, has described as a palpable lie the assertion by government that a residential facility at the Airport Residential Area is under renovation for ex-President Kufuor and his family, for which a team representing the ex-President has even met with some government officials for deliberations on the matter. He was reacting in an interview on PEACEFM's "Kokrokoo" to an earlier statement made by a Deputy Minister of Information, James Agyenim Boateng, on Joyfm. Its really unfortunate...its not true, he is lying, he stated. James Agyenim Boateng had posited that a team from the ex-Presidents office had inspected a state property being renovated for John Agyekum Kufuor on the Patrice Lumumba road in the Airport Residential Area. However, Mr. Agyekum categorically denies this. According to him, he is unaware of any such proposed allocation. As far as the former presidents office is concerned, nothing of such has happenedThe Deputy Minister cannot pinpoint anybody in the former Presidents office that had gone to see that facility which he said was being renovatedthe only letter I received from the National Security was somewhere in September last year, where they laid off the ex-Presidents personal security set up, he indicated. The former Information Minister told Kwami Sefa Kayi, Host of the programme that he wrote back to the National Security for audience. They promised to call for a meeting but that has not happened yetthe last meeting held with the national security was not about the accommodation for the ex-President, he added. The spokesperson for Mr. Kufuor also countered claims that former Chief of Staff; Mr. Kwadwo Mpiani, has been stalling efforts to allocate vehicles for the ex-President. The Deputy Information Minister told JoyFM that as far back as May 2009, officers from Mr. Kufuors office were at the Castle to inspect two Mercedez Benz saloon cars but failed to return to pick them. As I speak to you now, two more additional vehicles have been added. And these are V8 Toyota Land Cruisers, Mr. Agyenim Boateng said, adding that although Mr. Kwadwo Mpiani, has been called upon to inspect the vehicles he has refused to show up. But Mr. Agyekum explained that the last time Mr. Mpiani went to the Chief of Staffs office, the discussion related to the seizure of vehicles belonging to some former Ministers in the erstwhile NPP administration and did not border on the ex-President. Even Mr. Mpianis visit to Mr. Henry Martey Newmans office, also coincided with some former members of the security detail of the ex-President who had been laid offHe was Informed by the (current) Chief of Staff that they have two Mercedes Benz vehicles for ex-President Kufuor and he could take them away, he disclosed. Mr. Agyekum said they rejected the offer insisting that things be done holistically to avoid any future call-ups by the national security. We wanted to follow the constitutional arrangements, Parliament must know what and what he is going to pick, he added. Ghanaians know the package that was offered ex-President Rawlings and so the same should be done for ex-President Kufuor, he said.
