The ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has rubbished claims that the leadership of the Ghana Union Traders Association (GUTA) hate Nigerian retailers.

He said though the action of the Ghanaian traders is unfortunate, it is in the right direction because they feel their businesses have been taken over by Nigerians.

To him, the law enforcement agencies have failed to implement the law.

“I think the Ghanaian traders are only using the laws to do that. If you are in a country and you set out laws and you fail to implement them, this is what happens and so no one should think that our traders hate Nigerian traders. They are only doing that because they think their businesses are being taken over by the Nigerians,” he stated on Adom TV’s morning show Badwam, Friday.

GUTA said it will neither succumb nor kowtow to pressure and intimidation from the Government of Ghana on the matter.

The Union called on the government to work in favour of Ghanaians as far as retailing is concerned and desist from protecting foreigners engaged in retailing in Ghana, an action that is against the Act of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre.

Speaking on the issue, Abronye DC said law enforcement agencies ought to be blamed, adding that the earlier they up their game, the better for Ghanaian traders.
