Parliament House Needs No Change Or Reconstruction – Mintah Akandoh

Member of Parliament [MP] for Juaboso constituency in the Western Region, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has categorically stated that he sees and have not come across any single problem that should warrant plans by government to build a new 450-seater Parliamentary chamber to replace the current one.

He says it is very unnecessary for any member of the house to ask for a new chamber when the country has too much pressing needs to attend to.

Speaking on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ newspaper political discussion segment, the NDC communicator lamented he will not be surprised that the plan to build a new chamber will lawfully be agreed on by the Parliamentary Service Board without the concern of members of the house.

“ . . And let me correct this impression, it is possible that a decision over the construction will be made and finalized by the Parliamentary Service Board lawfully without it being made known on the floor of the house, because they don’t need any approval from the house by law to embark on such a project,” he said.

He confirmed that one statement that has run through every statement made by the minister responsible for roads on the floor of Parliament after answering every question due him on when a particular project will start is “subject to the availability of funds” meaning a project will be started or completed as and when the state has money.

In further explanation, he mentioned that there are about a thousand and one health facilities across the length and breadth of the country awaiting completion, meanwhile the government in its own capacity has the means to concentrate on other projects which are not of much priority to the country, but to satisfy their political gains.

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh called on members of the house to be bold and condemn something which is not of priority to this nation devoid of political affiliation.
