Axed IGP Was Labelled NDC Sympathiser....For Refusing To Dance To NPP's Tune - Yamoah Ponko

Former Municipal Chief Executive [MCE] for Ejisu/Juaben in the Ashanti region, Afrifa Yamoah Ponko says the announcement of the appointment of a new Inspector General of Police [IGP] by government, comes as no surprise to him.

The NDC guru, who described the former IGP David Asante-Apeatu as a “professional”, said the latter 'refused to dance to the tune of the NPP.

I knew this day will come because some big men in the NPP had already tagged the former IGP as a member of the NDC.

“David Asante-Apeatu proved us all wrong. The NPP wanted to use him for their selfish interest,” he said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show, ‘Ghana Montie’.

President Akufo-Addo on Monday, 22 July 2019, relieved substantive IGP David Asante-Apeatu of his post. In the release announcing the axing of Mr Asante-Apeatu, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh, was asked to act as IGP until a substantive IGP is appointed.

Mr. Asante-Apeatu has proceeded on leave with immediate effect, pending his retirement from the Ghana Police Service on Wednesday, 14th August, 2019. He is due to retire from the Ghana Police Service on Wednesday, 14th August, 2019.
