A National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirant in the Volta region, Kafui Augusta Takyi, has declared her intention to remain in the race. YEN.com.gh understands that Takyi, who is contesting for the Afajato South constituency in the region, suffered partial paralysis soon after declaring her bid.

She has however declared her intent to go ahead to contest in the 2020 elections despite her current medical condition.  “I can understand my supporters who said I got ill after filing my nominations. It is because the next time they saw me [after declaring my intention], I was paralysed but I got ill earlier after declaring my interest to contest for the slot again,” Takyi explained. Per a report by Citinewsroom.com, she added that doctors are doing their best to help her and again, she is confident God would heal her, so she contests and wins the seat.

Takyi went on to say that she is Number one on the ballot and not even the wheelchair she is currently in, would limit her. She added that the NDC’s votes in the constituency reduced from over 23,000 to about 19,000 in the 2016 elections and that is evident of the poor leadership of the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP). 

For that reason, she said, someone must come in to restore the confidence of the people in the party Takyi is the only candidate out of the five who contested the Afajato South Parliamentary primaries in previous elections against the incumbent, Angela Alorwu-Tay, who is still contesting in the upcoming primaries on August 24, 2019. Angela Alorwu-Tay has meanwhile called on Ghanaians to pray for her competitor. 

n other news, former president John Dramani Mahama has described the 2020 elections as the most crucial to be faced by the (NDC). He believes the 2020 polls would determine the future of the NDC as well as the future of Ghana. Mahama was addressing some NDC directors of elections at Tamale on Saturday, July 27, 2019.
