Gov’t To Reclaim Mining Lands

Government is expected to begin the reclamation exercise for lands affected by illegal mining activities in the country.

Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, made this known in an interview with the media on Monday, July 29, 2019, at Kibi Goldfields in the Eastern Region.

According to him, the exercise would begin in the Eastern Region.

He stated that lands in the Western and Ashanti Regions would also be reclaimed.

The Minister noted that Government was looking forward to a $200 million package for the reclamation exercise.

He said Government has received $80 million so far from the United States to conduct the pilot phase of the reclamation exercise.

According to him, an amount of $3 million was expected to be used in setting up an office for undertaking the exercise.

The Minister begun a five-day tour of some mines in the Eastern Region on Monday.
