C/R: Ekow Ewusi’s Suspension “Divisive” & “Too Personal” – NPP Regional Chairmen

All seems not to be well in the camp of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Central Region.

This follows the decision by the Regional Chairman, Robert Kutin, to suspend his First Vice-Chairman, Horace Ekow Ewusi, for allegedly refusing to respond to a petition by one Edward Okraku Adum, who accused him (Ewusi) of engaging in criminal acts including drug peddling, escaping from prison in the UK as well as illegally auctioning seized excavators from mining sites.

His alleged unilateral action has led to serious unrests within the party in the region.

Earlier on Tuesday, thousands of party activists massed up at the Regional headquarters, protesting the decision by the executives to suspend Ekow Ewusi.

Drawn from all twenty-three (23) constituencies, they also issued a 7-day ultimatum to the constituency and regional executives to ensure Mr Ewusi is fully reinstated; failure to do so will result in they (members) "storming the Flagstaff House".

Today's action was the second of such protests by party supporters over the 1st Vice-Chair's suspension

A few hours after Tuesday's protest march, more than 10 out of the 23 constituency chairmen of the party dissociated themselves from the suspension claiming the first Vice-Chairman is victimized by Robert Kutin.

In a statement cum petition, the Concerned Party Chairmen strongly voiced out their opposition describing the suspension as “unfortunate, divisive, illegal and too personal”.

“It is our concern that the recent supposed suspension of Hon. Ekow Ewusi has generated and continues to generate serious disaffection and divisions in the regional executive front, permeating through the entire grassroots of our party in the region," the statement read.

Adding that – “The suspension was unilaterally first threatened and pronounced on the regional executives’ platform by the chairman, Robert Kutin, during some of his exchanges and write-ups on the Regional Executive platform on 3rd July 2019. What was even more shocking was the blatant allegation by the regional Chairman to the effect that there are some national party authorities and powers protecting and shielding Ekow Ewusi from his criminal conduct. This allegation, we feel is most unfortunate, divisive, too personal and an affront to our National Executives.”

The concerned chairmen however called on the party's National Executives to swiftly intervene in the issue to calm matters.
