Wedding Guest 'Dies Of Cholera' In Kenya

A wedding guest in Kenya has died and 40 others were admitted to hospital over the weekend in the capital, Nairobi, Kenya's Star newspaper reports.

Tests indicated they had cholera and food poisoning after attending the ceremony on Saturday, the privately-owned paper said.

It tweeted a photo of the ceremony before a wedding feast was served up to a reported 450 guests.

The newly married couple did not suffer from any food poisoning, flying for their honeymoon to Dubai immediately after their wedding on Saturday, the paper says.

But the groom's grandfather reportedly died on Tuesday.

The caterer has not commented on the alleged cholera outbreak.

Cholera is an acute diarrhoeal infection, which is caused by ingestion of food or water contaminated with the bacterium Vibrio cholera - and outbreaks are not unusual in Kenya.

Two years ago, delegates attending an international health conference at a hotel in the capital came down with the disease.
