Mornah's 'Shocking', 'Irresponsible' Anti-Mahama Comments Not Party Position – Nabla

The National Women’s Organiser of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Mrs Janet Nabla, has condemned her National Chairman, Mr Bernard Mornah, for describing the party’s 2016 flag bearer, Dr Edward Mahama, as a “failure” who does not deserve to lead the party again into any election in the future.

Mr Mornah, who was a guest on Class FM Wednesday, 25 September 2019, said that he will ensure his party’s multiple-time flag bearer, who is now serving in the Akufo-Addo administration as an Ambassador-At-Large, is not be re-elected.

Mr Mornah accused Dr Mahama of being the cause of the party’s woes and vowed to end any future attempts of the medical doctor to seek re-election on the party’s ticket for the 2020 polls.

He told show host: “Dr Edward Mahama, technically, is a PNC member and he has all the rights that PNC members have, so, he can put himself forward to contest in any election for any position including being the flag bearer going forward; that is his right and I am sure that the Vetting Committee cannot disapprove of it.

“But if it has to be Bernard Mornah supporting his candidature or if it is Edward Mahama alone contesting, he needs to obtain about 66 per cent of votes and that means that we will do a yes or no [vote]. I will campaign for no.

“I think that he has failed us, he has not inspired leadership, he has not brought us to the level that we want him to, and it is obvious that I cannot support his coming back as leader of the party.”

Mr Mornah’s comments against Dr Mahama have irked some leaders of the PNC, including Mrs Nabla who told Class News in an interview on Friday, 27 September 2019 that Mr Mornah made an “irresponsible statement” which is “so disappointing”.

“In all political parties”, she noted, “We have the Chairman being the leader [but] in Mr Mornah’s case, he is the Chairman but not the leader of the party. The leader of our party is the flag bearer, who is now on top of PNC, followed by the Chairman, Mr Mornah. So, if he [Mr Mornah] says he is going to fight his [Dr Mahama’s] candidature in case he wants to contest again, how is he [Mr Mornah] going to do it?”

In Mrs Nabla’s view, Mr Mornah’s comments are “not PNC’s statement”.
