Monetization In Politics Should Be Treated As National Crisis – Majority Leader
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Member of Parliament for Suame constituency, Hon Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has disclosed that monetization in politics should be treated as a national crisis.
He says it is decaying the political fiber of the country and the development of political parties.
Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' program, he added that it is about time reforms are made to suit the establishment of political parties.
According to him parliament is such that you need selfless people to work for the people of Ghana.
"So if you have people who invest heavily financially to join parliament, what do you think will happen when they come to parliament?" he rhetorically asked.
"They will certainly pay attention to other things that will make them recoup their money."
He added that in this case, you have less experienced people to work in parliament. And this adversely affects the work of parliament.
"It is about time the party and the country at large decide to discuss this issue holistically since it is becoming a national crisis," he explained.
He said if the trend continued parliament would suffer immensely since the system would only attract unqualified candidates with money to influence the electoral processes to be selected at the expense of more competent aspirants.
