Naa Torshie Wins Africa Public Sector Award

Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund, Hon Irene Naa Torshie Lartey, has been adjudged outstanding woman in Public service in Africa at the 2nd Africa Public Sector Conference and Awards (APSCA) held in Accra.

The event was sponsored by Rwanda Air.

Hon Naa Torshie Lartey was also honored with Special recognition award for empowering persons with disability at the event attended by Ghana’s vice president, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia and other officers from both the state and private sector

The award and conference was initiated to gather great minds across Africa to unite and celebrate outstanding achievement in the Africa public sector and lift the veil on exceptional public servants that have made Africa proud.

Other notable winners include the Chief Executive officer of the forestry Commission, Kwadwo Owusu Afiriyie and the Executive chairman of Jospong Group, Dr Siaw Agyepong who were honored for outstanding contribution to public service and outstanding contribution to sustainable government initiative respectively.

Hon NaaTorshie, in an interview with the Media after the ceremony, dedicated the award to persons with disability and staff of the District Assemblies Common Fund who had in diverse ways worked tirelessly and contributed to the achievement of DACF objectives since she assumed office

According to her, she has always loved persons with disability and finds it rewarding that her passion for persons with disability has been noticed.

The government, she said, will continue to support persons with disability to enable them also contribute meaningfully to the socio economic development of the country.

The Administrator called on the public to support government’s efforts to help PWDs become self-reliance
She stated that increase in allocation of the common fund to PWDs by the government of Akufo-Addo shows the level of care the NPP government has for PWDs in the country and pledged to fight for their interest.

In his address, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia reiterated government’s commitment to take advantage of the digital revolution by using technology to leapfrog Ghana’s development.
He stressed that using technology is key to the advancement of the country because it will contribute in revenue mobilization.

Dr Bawumia urged Africa to take advantage of the digital revolution to improve socio-economic development of her people, adding that the way to achieve economic growth is through digitalization if Africa takes full advantage of it.
