Presby Moderator Signs Book of Condolence For GBK Owusu

The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the Rt. Rev Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante was at the premises of the Ghana International Press Centre on Wednesday, October 30 to sign a book of condolence opened for the late Mr Gilbert Banquo Kwame Owusu, popularly known as GBK Owusu.

GBK Owusu died at the age of 80 at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on Saturday, October 26th, 2019 after a short illness.

Speaking to the National President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Mr. Affail Monney after signing the condolence book, the Moderator described the late GBK Owusu as very humble, calm, courageous, and hard working person.

Rev Prof. Mante said, history will testify that the late GBK Owusu was a giant and courageous and will continue to be remembered as one of the foremost crop of Ghanaian journalists who fought for press freedom and free speech even in the era of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC).

The late GBK Owusu worked as an Editor of “The Christian Messenger and The Presbyterian,” both private newspapers published by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, for 34 years.

He retired as Editor of the two newspapers in 2000. He was instrumental in the creation of the Public Relations Unit of Church at the head office and was appointed the first official Public Relations Officer in 2001 until he finally retired in 2006.

Apart from the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the late GBK Owusu also worked as Public Relations Officer for the Christian Council of Ghana for decades.

The Moderator on behalf of the General Assembly Council and the entire Presbyterian Church of Ghana family extended his deepest condolences to the children and family of the longest serving Editor of the first private Christian Newspaper in Ghana.

Rt. Rev Prof Mante urged Church members to remember the family in prayer in this difficult moment.
