Yeji: Angry Muslim Youth Attack Hospital For Corpse; Vandalize Police Vehicles

Over 500 angry Muslims youths at Yeji in Pru East district in the Bono East region have attacked St. Mathias Hospital for the corpes of their brother Yussif popularly known as "Abokyi".

The deceased was shot last Sunday around 10:30pm by unknown person while he was in his provision shop and undisclosed amount was taken away

The chief of Yeji Zongo , Salaki Seidu Mijin Yawa II and some elders of the area reported the case to the police at Yeji.

Later on, the police sent the body to St.Mathias hospital for autopsy.

According to the Spokesperson for Yeji Zongo Chief, Adams Abdulai, the police refused to hand over the body to them to burry on the next day which is against their religion.

He alleged to that police ask them to pay an amount of ghc 3,000 before they will release the corpes to them but upon negotiation with their leaders, they decided to make part payment for them to get the body but the police refused to accept the part payment demanding full payment.

This decision by the police did not go well with the youths and therefore stormed to the hospital for their corpes to burry.

Afterwards some of the youths also went back to the police station to know why the police wanted to take money from them before handing over their corpes.

After reaching the police station, they started throwing stone on the police vehicles which were available at that time and vandalized the windscreen.

No arrest has been made so far.

Moreover some of the youths and the elder at Yeji Zongo are calling on the IGP to immediately transfer the Pru East District police commamder,Chief Supt.Owuahene Acheampong to avoid further occurrences.

Several attempts has been made to get the side of the police but it has prove futile.
